nobody's blogged about our tahoe trip yet so i feel it is my obligation to make sure last weekend's events get recorded. i'll jump ahead to the most notable event of the weekend...

saturday morning we woke up bright and early so that we could be the first on the slopes. it had snowed on friday night so we were all stoked about the fresh powder. the cabin is in a totally residential area and the streets had not yet been cleared by a snowplow.

david's car left sometime before 9am and then eric's car followed shortly thereafter. as eric was driving down the street, an old vw van skidded on the ice in front of him and practically blocked the street. eric swerved to avoid him but a purple truck was coming in the opposite direction and unfortunately, eric couldn't avoid him. luckily, nobody was hurt and the damage was pretty minor.

a few minutes later, jeng's car was driving down the same street and saw eric pulled over on the side of the road. jeng stepped on the brakes to pull over but i guess he stepped a little too abruptly because before we knew it, we were sliding too. it was like slow motion... were we going to hit erics car? were we going to flip over? were we going to hit an innocent bystander standing on the side of the street?... thank goodness none of those things happened. instead, we ran into and up a huge pile of dirt and snow. luckily again, nobody was hurt and the damage was pretty minor but oh man, check out these pictures!

we all climbed out of the car to survey the damage. it looked crazy! passersby were staring at the suburban. one guy even had the nerve to drive by and take a bunch of pictures. haha. later, a cop came by to take a police report of eric's accident. it turns out the purple truck's driver did not speak much english, did not have a driver's license or insurance, and therefore, had his car impounded. the same tow truck that impounded that guy's car also pulled the suburban off the snow. surprisingly, the suburban runs just fine -- at least from what the sketchy car repair shop guy told us.

that was definitely an adventure. most of us still made it to the slopes that afternoon and our weekend was still a fun one but when i remember the weekend, i don't think about the boarding as much, instead i think... damn that suburban is awesome.
