what an adventure last night... since i work in the "entertainment industry" and we advertise in a lot of magazines, i get a lot of party invites through work. yesterday just happened to be a lot of events in one evening.
1) after work, was the stuff happy hour at thirsty bear. had some beers, ate... not many coworkers showed up so it was very chill.
2) then daniel and i headed over to the warfield for our vip seats for the nintendo fusion tour -- headlined by Fall Out Boy and opened by a bunch of bands (i only knew Motion City Soundtrack and Starting Line). i didn't really want to watch all the bands cuz we had other places to go, so we just stayed for the Starting Line and then moved to the next destination.
3) the coors light maxim model search party was... interesting. we got there late and had to wait in line for a bit. (they were only letting skanky girls in.) while we were waiting, randy moss rolls out of his escalade (or some big SUV) and into the party. (i wanted to shout, "hey T.O.!"; i thought that would be hilarious.)
anyway, it turns out that a bunch of raiders were doing the judging for this maxim contest -- randy moss, jerry porter and warren sapp were the more well-known players, and then two others i don't remember. for the contest, they had a bunch of scantily-clad ladies prancing around on stage. yipee. there was a break in the action so we started playing video games. (the event had some nintendo sponsorship.) so if you get the next maxim and see me a picture of me playing video games at a party, you'll know why... we're such dorks.
you'd think this party would keep us occupied enough but it was a weird vibe in the place. my coworker, mike explained it best, "it feels like a coors light christmas party or something." bright lights, all the coors light you could drink (yuck) and eskimo-dressed go-go dancers that were really really bad. they looked bored.
4) so we ditched that place and went to our final destination -- the nintendo fusion tour afterparty, sponsored by blender magazine. it was a cool spot and got pretty crowded with the punk rock crowd. we were kinda uh... not in our usual mindset... and just crowd watched. (you may see us in blender magazine too. probably looking totally retarded, i'm sure.) we slowly realized that we were sitting right behind all the bandmembers. i was wondering why they looked so cliquey and people kept going up to them for autographs. haha. i should've gotten one but i couldn't bring myself to play that 16-year-old groupie role.
and that was our evening... hung out with the VIPs of stuff, maxim and blender magazines, maybe even ending up in the next issue... judged the maxim model search... hung out with raiders and rock stars... got intoxicated in more ways than one (and for free)... hm, not bad for a thursday night.
