i need to blog this one before i forget it myself. :) it will be a long one:
8/8/08 was my last friday in san francisco so jeng had a 'summer in the city' day blocked off on our calendars. i had no idea what he had up his sleeve but i did have one request... could we get our iphones since my contract was finally up? haha.
friday morning my wish was granted and we headed to the apple store to buy our new gadgets. i had issues since i was trying to port a new york number (i like to make things difficult) so after the apple store, we went to at&t.
at 3pm, jeng said we had an appointment we couldn't miss. we had to wait for a red/white shuttle near union square. i swore we were going to do a segway tour since jeng's been wanting to do one FOREVER. then a double-decker tourist bus drove by and i said, "is that it?" thankfully, it wasn't. (whew!) a few minutes later another red/white shuttle stopped in front of us... SF Helicopter Tours it said. Cool!
the shuttle drove us to sausalito and from there, we took a 30-minute flight around the bay. the coolest part was our loop-de-loop around the golden gate bridge. (i didn't know you could do that.) at the end, we felt a little airsick as we headed back to the city (and another at&t store).
with iphone issues resolved, we returned home to get ready for dinner. i knew we were going to michael mina but jeng kept trying to throw me off. (nice try buddy.) we had the six-course tasting menu with wine pairing. the highlight of the meal was 1) the oyster amuse bouche marinated with a tomato sauce and topped with a jalapeño granita and 2) the foie gras layered with a strawberry jello-like sauce and garnished chocolate and strawberries. (the BEST foie gras dish i have ever had.) the meal was delicious but long, and the whole time i was trying to avoid getting intoxicated since he had another surprise up his sleeve after dinner.
dinner ended and jeng said we were running late. "late for what?" i asked. we rushed across the street into union square. in the distance i saw what i thought were street performers -- a violinist and a guitarist but as we got closer i noticed there were two chairs and blankets with a small piece of paper:
we sat down to listen to the music which included a few of our favorite beatles songs:
i've just seen a face
all my loving
if i fell in love with you
during the second to the last song, a group of rollerbladers and bicyclists came into union square blasting fat boy slim's right about now. i thought, "is this part of the plan?" haha. they turned down their music so we could hear. when the performance was done, we got up to walk away. it was cold and i had a feeling something was going to happen. (after such an eventful day, i knew something was up.) i was clutching so hard that when jeng proposed, he had trouble getting down on one knee. haha. at first i was so shocked i just said, "really?!" haha. after saying yes, i turned around and saw his brother, sister and two of his cousins hiding in the bushes with video cameras. how embarrassing!
now the news has had a chance to settle in and the ring has been sized to fit but before you wonder when the wedding will be, its not for another two years when i'm done with school. so watch out for 2010! it should be a good year...
