this is somewhat random. (but what blog isn't?)

around the time when all the Hurricane Katrina stuff happened, i thought to myself, "i should really prepare myself for an emergency." and then that was that. another thought that would pass quickly in the night.

just now it came up again in conversation and i've made it a priority on my list of things to do. i live alone and i don't even think i have a working flashlight in the house. i figure i should definitely think about this stuff -- who knows when a big earthquake will hit or (like in new york a few years ago) when a huge blackout will deprive me of electricity for awhile. "always be prepared", right? right.

so anyway, i encourage you folks reading this to do likewise. even if you live at home with your parents, i bet its likely that they haven't thought about it either. at least get some of the basics taken care of. and here's advice from the red cross to guide you on this task.
